laguna miramar

prime seat in the truck on the road from ocosingo to san quintin

its even bluer in real life...so blue

its kind of soft and gooey

people from benito juarez arriving at our camp at dawn

how to reach laguna miramar:

In Ocosingo, head down to the bottom of the tianguis, ask for the combi (actually just a pickup) for san quintin.  Its about 6 hours, and you definitely must climb up on the rack for at least an hour.

Maybe the chofer will take you to the town of Emiliano Zapata, but if not just walk all the way along the airstrip in san quintin until you are "out of town" and then you will be in zapata.  Down the hill and across the bridge is the trail to the lake, well marked.

If you dont have serious boots, rent some in zapata.  The last leg of your journey is a 5km slog in some fairly serious mud.

Although there is no food to buy at the lake, if you ask nicely the guards will arrange you a resupply, for a fee.  There are some bottom-feeder type fish in the lake, edible, but nothing to write home about & you need a big sinker :)
